| EDDIE MOLONEY LANDS FINAL ROUND OF SHOWJUMPINGIRELAND PREMIERE SERIES AS
PAUL O SHEA IS CROWNED OVERALL LEAGUE WINNER (Photo's by Fiona Quinn & Richard Scott) For more photo's from Ennis click here Newly crowned National Show jumping Champion Eddie Moloney continued his rich vein of form when landing the final round of the TRM ShowjumpingIreland Premiere Series at the splendid Ennis Showgrounds in Co Clare on Sunday last (August 29th).
Riding his own Voltaire sired chestnut gelding ‘’SlIeveanorra’’, Moloney grabbed the lions share of the generous €15,000 on offer from sponsors Allmon Contractors & Tobin Sand and Gravel with almost a second in hand over runner up John Floody and the ever consistent ‘’Larkhill Cruiser’’ who was named leading horse of the series.
Stephaine Finetto was almost three seconds slower than Floody with ‘'Heracross’' but leaving all poles intact saw them well placed at the finish in third, indeed she finished ahead of her tutor Francis Connors who slotted Westwinds Cirracruise into fourth.
Joan Greene recorded one of the fastest times of the day with ''Biscaya D’Eversem'' but a fence on the floor saw them finish in fifth just ahead of last weekend’s Limerick Grand Prix winner Greg Broderick who was aboard ‘’Mrs Quinn’’.
The overall Premiere Series title was secured by Paul O Shea, the Limerick born rider has been ultra consistent throughout the season and another top ten finish at Ennis, this time riding ‘’Realman RH’’ saw him comfortably over the finish line. Indeed with time running out for his nearest challengers Francis Connors and Tholm Keane, O Shea could also be crowned TRM National Grand Prix League Champion in the coming weeks.

| TIPPERARY RIDERS DOMINATE TOP PLACES, AS GREG BRODERICK LANDS LIMERICK GRAND PRIX The penultimate round of the Munster ‘Greyhound Night Grand Prix League held at Limerick Show on Sunday last (August 22nd), turned into a Co Tipperary white-wash, as riders from the Premiere county filled the top three places at the finish. Once again this popular league attracted a healthy start list with forty two horses and riders going to post from which fifteen made it into the jump-off. Clean jumping was the order of the day with the top eight all jumping double clear rounds but the all important fastest time of the clock decider was delivered by an in form Greg Broderick. Fresh from winning both the five and seven year old National Championships at Coilog last week, the Thurles based rider claimed the lion’s share of the €2,000 on offer from Co Sponsors Equimax, The Munster Greyhound Night Fund Raiser and ShowjumpingIreland’s Sports Development Grant. Riding the nine year old mare ‘Cavalier Unlimited’ Broderick scorched round the course (36.30 seconds) and finished with over a second to spare over his nearest challenger Seamus Hayes and ‘Twister’ (37.34). ‘’She (Cavalier Unlimited) is a really fast mare against the clock and this class was just perfect for her. She was ridden by Linda Courtney a couple of years ago before travelling to Canada where her owners Caledonia Stables are based. I have her since the start of this year and the plan is to continue to jump her for a while before breeding from her in the future, commented Greg Broderick after the class. Indeed he was also among the prizes with the impressive eight year old Carthago sired gelding ‘Corofelio’ when taking fifth place. Another positive for Greg and father Austin Broderick was the return of their top Grand Prix horse ‘Ballypatrick Esperanza’ to the show grounds at Limerick on Sunday also. Having suffered a serious tendon injury at Cavan Horse show almost two years ago, Esperanza who is reported to have made a full recovery was brought along for a light workout and is nearing a return to full action in the coming weeks. Fellow Tipp native Seamus Hayes claimed his second top three placing in the 2010 Munster League with his own Heartbreaker sired gelding ‘Twister’. Having finished in third place at the Dungarvan round, Hayes went one better at Limerick to take runner up spot, finishing just ahead of another Tipperary rider Liam O Meara and ‘Mr Coolcaum, this combination having won the Cork Summer Show Grand Prix in July. The final round of the Munster Grand Prix League takes place at Banteer Gymkhana on Sunday September 5th, with league leader and newly crowned National Speed Champion Ger O Nell looking a certainty to claim the leading rider prize of €4,000, although with a further €10,000 on offer at the Co Cork show, another large turnout looks on the cards. | LIMERICK’S PAUL O SHEA CROWNED LEADING IRISH RIDER AT FAILTE IRELAND DUBLIN HORSE SHOW SHANE CAREY FINISHES RUNNER UP IN GERMAN GRAND PRIX With record attendances and a host of wins for the home side, the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show drew to a close on Sunday last after five days of intense competition after which Limerick born Paul O'Shea was crowned Leading Irish rider of the show after recording a memorable double. The second day of the event last Thursday turned out to be a day the Kildimo native will never forget when he scored a double of wins in the International arena in front of a packed audience. Riding Paul Clarke and Michael Walsh's grey gelding 'Daydream St Ghyvan Z'. O'Shea saw off American challenger Beezie Madden and 'Prima' by almost half a second.in the Speed Derby to scoop the 7,000 euro first prize before piloting ''Camiro de Haar'' to victory in the Six Bar competition. Further top placings in a host of classes including the Puissance saw O Shea, who currently tops the National Grand Prix League, land the coveted Longines award for leading Irish rider. Meanwhile another Co Limerick rider, Shane Carey from Crecora was also in sparkling form last week when winning the Nordic Tour leading rider prize in Sweden and went on to claim runner up spot with his horse Lancereto in the Verden Grand Prix in Germany on Sunday, finishing just five hundredths of a second behind former world number one Meredith Michaels Beerbaum. Back at the RDS, the curtain closing Longines Grand Prix of Ireland on Sunday last at the RDS, which had a total of 200,000 euro on offer in prize money saw two Irish riders, Billy Twomey and Denis Lynch, claiming a sizable share of the spoils with a third and sixth place, respectively. The top prize of 66,500 euro went to the USA's McLain Ward and the much-fancied grey gelding 'Antares F', who recorded one of just six double clears in the 40-strong competition. Cork-born Twomey and his bay stallion 'Je t'Aime Flamenco' picked up 26,000 euro for a third place, while Tipperary's Denis Lynch and Thomas Straumann's 'Nabab's Son' were the last of the double clears amongst the ten combinations through to the final round, with a slower time producing 11,500 euro for sixth overall.. SHANE BREEN WINS ACCUMALATOR WITH IRISH BRED ‘’DORADA’’, LYNCH IN THIRD. Earlier on Saturday last it was three-in-a-row for Ireland at the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show with Cork's Billy Twomey and Tipperary's Shane Breen taking outright victory in the first two classes and Meath based Cian O'Connor sharing victory in the Puissance. Breen opened the score with the Accumulator competition, placing his Irish-bred gelding 'Dorada' in first, with the Army's Capt. David O'Brien close behind with another Irish-bred, the Minister for Defence's 'Kiltoom', and Nations' Cup clear-rounder Denis Lynch in third. Indeed Lynch’s performances throughout the week were incredible considering he is suffering from back – pain for a number of weeks and looked in severe pain when walking the courses at the RDS and eventually resorted to using a golf buggy to get around to minimize the discomfort. Later on Saturday Billy Twomey racked up a second Irish victory this time in the big jump-off class with Sue Davies's Nations' Cup horse 'Tinka's Serenade' seeing off Spanish challenger Sergio Alvarez Moya by just under a second. Nicola Fitzgibbon rode her bay gelding 'Puissance' into third, with Niall Talbot recording Ireland's third double clear in the competition with a fourth place. In the last competition of the day, it was Meath's Cian O'Connor with French-bred gelding 'Noctambule Courcelle' who carried the Irish flag through to the podium when finishing joint first in the Puissance alongside Venezuela's Pablo Barrios. The two riders were the last left standing after the giant wall gradually defeated the rest of the 14 starters, but in the final jump-off with the wall standing at a forbidding 2m15, neither riders was able to jump clear and so shared the 19,700 euro first prize. VITAL CLEAR ROUND FROM LYNCH HELPS IRELAND FINISH EQUAL SECOND IN AGA KHAN TROPHY IRELAND'S Aga Khan team finished equal second in the final Meydan Nations' Cup of 2010 at the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show on Friday on a total of 20 faults. The result also cemented Ireland's place in the Meydan Superleague for 2011, with points accumulated over this year's eight legs putting them in fourth place overall of the world's top ten teams. Clear rounds from Billy Twomey and 'Tinka's Serenade', Cian O'Connor riding 'K Club Lady' and Denis Lynch with 'Nabab's Son' pushed Ireland up into joint second place with the USA, but neither nation could catch an in-form Netherlands quartet, who needed a prime result at Dublin to avoid 2011 relegation, and produced their best performances of the year to finish in first place with just four faults. With Twomey the only zero score after the first round, and a discard twelve faults from Dermott Lennon and 'Hallmark Elite', Ireland carried a tally of 16 faults into the final round, and though Twomey had one rail down and Lennon registered eight faults on his second attempt, O'Connor and his new mare produced a textbook clear, followed by an identical zero-score performance from Tipperary's Denis Lynch to add just four faults to the overall total. Afterwards Team Ireland Equestrian's show jumping manager Robert Splaine said: "It has been a very satisfactory outcome to the year, and we accomplished some of our main goals, such as finishing first at Aachen and ending up fourth overall in the Meydan league. We would love to have won on home ground for the home crowd, but the Dutch proved to be very strong and in the end had a well-deserved win. 'We dug deep in the second round, as we have done so many times before, and it shows the mettle and quality of the riders that they are able to produce a result like this under such pressure. "I'd like to pay tribute to all the Irish riders who participated in this year's Meydan league and who produced such top class performances for us. Thanks of course, must also go to the owners who made it all possible and to our large back-up team, including the staff at Horse Sport Ireland, who worked so tirelessly for us behind the scenes." France won the overall Meydan title for 2010, though finishing in fourth place at Dublin, while Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Poland will now be relegated to the FEI Promotional League for 2011, as the four lowest-scoring teams of 2010. Two teams will be promoted from that league and next year the superleague will contain eight teams instead of ten. COUNTDOWN IS ON TO THE SJI NATIONAL HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS & THE MUNSTER REGION PONY AND HORSE SHOW IN CO LIMERICK Meanwhile the Equestrian focus now moves to the much awaited ShowjumpingIreland National Horse Championships which begin on Wednesday (August 11th) with a fantastic programme of classes on offer through to Sunday August 15th. With one of the largest prize funds of the season, a host of National titles and entry fees starting at just 15 euro, the SJI Championships are attracting huge interest, with many of the competitors in action at last week’s Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show set to head to the Kildare venue next week. Meanwhile the Munster Region of ShowjumpingIreland have put together a massive 2 day show to be held at Clonshire Equestrian Centre in Co Limerick also this weekend (Sat 14th & Sun 15th August) With almost 10,000 euro in prize money, entries from as little as €12 and family entertainment planned for Saturday night, the Munster Pony and Horse Show looks set to attract many of Ireland’s top pony riders. | CLARE'S TOM FOLEY HELPS IRELAND TO WIN SILVER MEDAL AT EUROPEAN PONY CHAMPIONSHIPS THE Irish team of Bertram Allen, Tom Foley, Shane Kenny and Emma O'Dwyer this afternoon (Friday) won the Silver Medal at the European Pony Show Jumping Championships at Bishop Burton in England. Tying with Belgium in second place after two rounds on a total of 12 faults, the Irish team won the jump-off with the fastest three clear rounds, and finished runners-up to Gold Medal winners Germany, with Belgium taking Bronze.
A double clear round from Co Wexford's Bertram Allen and 'Acapella Z' and a clear by Tom Foley from Co Clare with 'Dibidoe' brought Ireland into the top three at the close of competition, but with an aggregate of 12 faults they tied with Belgium behind Gold Medallists Germany, who finished on four faults.
But in the jump-off, Ireland recorded the three fastest clears to claim the Silver medal and relegate Belgium to Bronze position.
Ian Fearon, Team Ireland Equestrian's Chef d'Equipe at the European Championships, said: "I am absolutely delighted with my team winning the silver medal, as once again we have brought new combinations to the top of international jumping through our very good training system at home. To make it sweeter we had to do it the hard way by having to jump off, but where we excelled." PONY SHOW JUMPING RESULTS: FEI EUROPEAN PONY CHAMPIONSHIPS

| THE TRM NATIONAL GRAND PRIX LEAGUE 2010
NEWCASTLE WEST CO LIMERICK SUNDAY JULY 18th
Sponsored by McAuliffe Sand & Gravel
LOCAL WINNER AS LIMERICK’S PAUL O SHEA LANDS TRM NATIONAL GRAND PRIX AT NEWCASTLE WEST Co Limerick’s Paul O Shea ensured the local crowd had plenty to cheer as he landed yet another win in the TRM National Grand Prix League at Newcastle West today. (Sunday)
With Saturday’s round at Limerick and District Show falling victim to the weather, and time running out before he departs for his new base in the United States, Kildimo native O ‘Shea is well aware that he needs to keep as much distance as possible between him and his nearest rivals if he is to claim the National League title.
Just six of the twenty six starters made it into the jump-off where Michael Cusack was a bit too anxious to get the job done with the stallion ‘Future Trend’, when he started his round before the bell rang to face immediate elimination.
Sinead Kenney and KEC Alicante have been in sparkling form throughout 2010 and it was no surprise to see the Tralee native on the podium again after her steady second clear round (54.88) was enough to take fifth place.
Tholm Keane has picked up where he left off after his brief spell an International duty and steered Warrenstown U2 to fourth place (46.41) and also took second with the unpredictable ‘Warrenstown Well Aware’ with a double clear round this time stopping the clock in 44.34 seconds.
Reining league champion Francis Connors ensured the top three on the league table filled the top three places at Newcastle West when he piloted Westwinds Cirracruise to third place (46.17).
However there was no doubting the winner with Paul O Shea and Day Dream St Ghyvan finishing over two seconds clear of the chasing pack to extend his lead at the top and grab the lions share of the 3,000 euro on offer from sponsors Mc Auliffe Sand and Gravel.
Paul O Shea now has a nine point advantage over second placed Francis Connors although with just fourteen points separating the top three and with three more rounds remaining, the battle for the TRM National Grand Prix title looks set to go down to the wire.

| LIMERICK SHOW JUMPERS ON FIRE AT HOME AND ABROAD O’SHEA AND CAREY BOTH LAND GRAND PRIX WINS LAURA SLATER TRM REPRESENTATIVE PRESENTING BANADOWN GRAND PRIX WINNER PAUL O SHEA WITH A HAMPER OF TRM PRODUCTS. Blessed with glorious sunshine, Barnadown Stud near Gorey Co Wexford provided the perfect setting for round 2 of the TRM National Grand Prix League on Sunday last (May 9th) where Limerick born Paul O Shea finished top of the podium after a 16 way jump - off. Riding the Paul Clarke and Michael Walsh owned Day Dream St Ghyvan Z. O Shea had to take the tightest of turns and galloped all the way to land the lion’s share of the 3,000 euro on offer from sponsors Bloxham Stockbrokers. '' I am delighted to take this win at Barnadown especially for my owners who are so important, the Premiere series is my main goal but hopefully I can continue to pick up points in the TRM National League along the way'' commented Kildimo born Paul O Shea afterwards. Galway's Olive Clarke can count herself unlucky not to have taken first place after posting the fastest time of the competition with Cruisings Micky Finn, but one fence down saw them finish in 6th place. Clarke however did take runner up spot on her other mount Starboard, when clear in 40.26 seconds. Conor Swail and Peninsula Kheelan looked an impressive partnership and their time of 42.82 seconds was good enough to take third place. Last week’s winner at Thomastown, Tholm Keane was double handed in the jump off but an early rail down with Warrenstown U2 meant the Waterford rider had to rely on a clear in 43.49 seconds from Redmills Krafty Jack to give him valuable league points from a fourth place finish, while Ross Mullholland and Touched Up finished fifth with a steady clear round in 51.49 seconds. Francis Connors also picked up league points with Heracross finishing 7th. Barnadown Grand Prix winner Paul O Shea with Sean Cooney of Botanica FULL RESULT

| FLOODY TAKES HSI CHIPPISON TOUR TITLE, O'SHEA WINS GRAND PRIX MEATH'S John Floody finally secured the HSI Chippison Spring Tour Leading Rider title this evening (Sunday) at Coilog Equestrian Centre in Co. Kildare with a Grand Prix second place on Michael Smith's nine year-old gelding 'Larkhill Cruiser'. The runner-up spot, behind today's winner Paul O'Shea and 'Day Dream St Ghyvan Z', yielded sufficient points to take the Slane rider well clear of his nearest challenger Ger O'Neill, who placed fifth at Coilog with Paul O'Byrne's 'Cassidee'. Floody ended the 13-leg series with 56 points, while O'Neill had 36.5. Afterwards Floody said: "I'm absolutely delighted. Ger O'Neill put me under terrific pressure with two horses going clear today, but 'Larkhill Cruiser' coped very well with the pressure and I'm very happy with him." The HSI Chippison 2010 Spring Tour Young Rider title went to Conor Drain, with 'Larkhill Cruiser' taking the Leading Irish Sport Horse award and Jim Monks's 'Ashbourne' receiving the Leading Horse trophy. | LIMERICK & CLARE BRANCH OF SHOWJUMPINGIRELAND
AWARDS NIGHT, HELD AT THE TEMPLE GATE HOTEL ENNIS
SATURDAY 27TH OF FEBRUARY
The second year of the Limerick/Clare awards night proved to be an even bigger success than the first. The Templegate Hotel in Ennis was packed to the rafters for a very enjoyable evening. To their credit they served an outstanding meal to the 280 strong crowd of award winners and supporters alike.
There was a Hall of Fame Award presented on the night to Mr. Jim White. A very worthy recipient of this accolade, Mr. White’s outstanding contribution and lifelong dedication to the sport of showjumping was justly acknowledged. Mr. White’s quick wit can often be heard over the announcer in the showjumping arenas. It was a great surprise for Mr. White on the night, because he knew nothing of his upcoming award.
The pony riders were first to receive their awards, and they were all greatly applauded for their efforts throughout the year. Some of the events the pony riders participated in this year were the Munster Orange and Green Leagues. These leagues were a new venture this year and proved very popular. There was also The Malone Family League, The Orchard Equestrian League and The Shannonside League, all of which were strongly supported. Some of the most successful pony riders include Siobhan McCarthy who qualified for the RDS and was placed 7th in the 138 final on ‘Double Trouble Boy’, and also 4th in the Munster Orange Final. Paul Kennedy qualified ‘Ruby Riot’ for the RDS show in August in the 148 6/7 Year Old Class. Eoin McMahon qualified for the RDS, was placed in the Premier League Qualifiers, 4th in the Munster Orange League, 2nd & 3rd in the Orchard Equestrian League and he was placed in the 138 and 148 1.20M Young Rider at the Pony Owners Show in Millstreet. He was a member of the children on horses team in Morseille, Belgium. Laura Costello qualified for the RDS, was placed at the Southview Equestrian Centre Show and was a team member on the 138 team. Having won the Premier class at Milchem, Conor McMahon was also placed 3rd and 6th in the Orchard Equestrian League Final and 4th in the U10 National Pony Championships. Tim Dunworth rode ‘Keelings Phoenix’ into 2nd place in the 148 1.30m at the Premier League Final at Banteer.
Tom Foley received the Leading Pony Rider Award. He qualified for the RDS and the 148 final. He was placed 2nd and 6th in the Munster Orange League, while he was placed 2nd in the Munster Green League 138 & 148. He won legs in both the Malone Family Leagues and Orchard Equestrian League, and he won the 6 bar at the National Championships. He was placed 2nd in the Puissnace at the Pony Owners Show in Millstreet, and he had numerous placings in the Premier Series.

Lanci Borota was placed 4th in 1M Young Rider at the National Championships.
Leading Young Rider on the night was presented to David Blake for his achievements. He had a very successful year with his string of horses. Blake was placed 4th in the 1.20 YR at the Pony Owners, 2nd in the 1.30 at Cavan International and 5th in the 1.35 Grand Prix at Kill. At Royal Windsor Show, David was 3rd in the opening class, the Land Rover 1.50 on Fabienne, just behind Robert Whitaker and Billy Twomey. That same horse gained him a win in Bath and West Show in the Speed Stakes. On board Billy Burgundy, David was placed in the 6YO final. Blake narrowly missed out on team bronze by just a single time fault in the European Championships when the team finished 4th. At the British Young Horse Championships in Addington in August, david won the 4YO championship on the Cevin Z stallion Billy Mexico. All in all, a pretty good year.
The amateur awards went to Derrick Burke who was placed 3rd in the Leddy League. Rena Queally qualified for the RDS on her own Kilmore Royale. She was 3rd in the Grand Prix at the National Championships and 2nd in the Munster Indoor Championships. Congratulations also to Rena was married recently to Peadair, we wish them all the best. (pictured right, Shane Carey with the 12 2's. From left Alex Stuart, Zoe Leonard, Shane Carey and Nicole Braddish).
The 6 classes each Sunday were full to capacity, and pony riders, young riders, seniors and amateurs received outstanding tuition from a selection of our international competitors. Participants enjoyed training from Capt. Shane Carey, Cmmdt. Tom Fraine, Ltnt. Michael Kelly, Ltnt. Brian Curran, Peter Leonard and Cian O’Connor. (pictured below, Tom Freyne with Aisling Ni Bhrolchain, Danielle Collins, Julia Kennedy, Jennifer Leonard and Celine Braddish)
Each week saw a different tutor, and all the classes were put through their paces. Starting just after Christmas, everybody had to be 100% committed. Facing freezing temperatures, each week saw a full turnout to beat the elements.
(pictured below, Peter Leonard with the 13 2 class).
Starting with the young rider class in the morning, they got the early start. This was followed by three classes of ponies, and two more of adults and amateurs. The sun shone for each week of the training, though the early classes stayed indoors to miss the frost! | | |
| LIMERICK’S PAUL O SHEA WINS IN CROSSMAGLEN AS TREVOR BREEN TAKES EARLY LEAD IN BOTANICA/SHOWJUMPINGIRELAND AUTUMN GRAND PRIX LEAGUE Paul O'Shea claimed the second leg of the Botanica/ShowjumpingIreland Autumn Grand Prix League in James Kernan's Equestrian Centre last night. Riding Paul Clarke and Michael Walsh's Day Dream St Ghyvan Z, O'Shea from Kildimo, firmly put himself on the leaderboard when posting the fastest of four combinations in the jump off. Although also making it through with Primo De Revel, O'Shea decided not to take part in the second round on Michael Hayden's gelding. O'Shea still managed to do just enough with his other mount when breaking the beam in a time of 30.74. Having finished third in the ShowjumpingIreland National Grand Prix League, O'Shea now sits in second place on 10 points just behind league leader Trevor Breen.
